Sicarius thomisoides (Sand Spider)

These sand spiders are amazing animals! They cover themselves just under the surface of the sand, and when unsuspecting prey walks within striking distance these spiders launch themselves out of the sand to catch their prey! 

They are arid and need to be kept completely dry, they do not need any water. An enclosure with just fine sand is all that is needed for this species, and they don't mind having pieces of cork bark, though it is not needed. They CANNOT climb smooth surfaces, so although they are fast, if the enclosure is tall enough they are very unlikely to escape during feeding/maintenance.
